Richard Farnam, MD, one of the nation’s first board-certified specialists in urogynecology, leads the team at Texas Urogynecology & Laser Surgery Center. This specialized field of gynecology involves the diagnosis and management of bladder problems and incontinence, as well as pelvic floor support defects and prolapse.

The state-of-the-art medical center is equipped with multichannel urodynamic diagnostic equipment, so all testing is performed on site. A range of cutting-edge treatments is available, ensuring that all patients receive the highest level of medical care.

He has performed over 2,500 robotic surgeries and trains surgeons from all over the United States on advanced procedures.

Urogynecology Specialist

Richard Farnam, MD is a devoted advocate of women’s health, El Paso community leader, and compassionate provider. He is double board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (Urogynecology). Dr. Farnam completed his residency training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and gained extensive experience in pelvic reconstructive surgery during his AAGL fellowship in New York. He became a member of the first class of board certified urogynecologists in 2013.

Dr. Farnam is one of the nation’s top robotic surgical educators. He established a Robotic Epicenter training facility in El Paso, Texas. Surgeons from around the world travel to observe his team’s surgical excellence program. Every year hundreds of physicians, and residents attend his speaking and training events and conferences. Dr. Farnam has performed Live Telesurgery viewed by thousands of participants during the 2014 AAGL Hysterectomy Summit. He developed products and invented devices used in the urogynecologic surgery marketplace. He has served as chairman and board member for AAGL committees. AAGL is the world’s largest gynecology organization. During his tenure, he helped produce national policy guidelines for robotic surgery. He has also sat on two of our local hospital governing boards. Dr. Farnam is very active on social media health education platforms, and enjoys traveling with his wife Nanda and their four children.

Dr. Farnam is Urogynecology director for El Paso’s community OBGYN residency program and clinical assistant professor at Texas Tech University and Burrell Collage of Medicine. He is one of the top benign GYN surgeons in America having performed over 2700 robotic surgeries. He is the world’s leading expert on robotic ureter visualization and is the principal investigator for the first human trials of IS-001 fluorescence dye. His patients travel from over thirty-eight states and many foreign countries for consultation and surgery. Dr. Farnam is a reviewer for the Journal of minimally invasive gynecology and the Journal of Urology. He has also published on robotics in multiple peer-reviewed journals. His accolades include being a twelve time ‘Patient’s Choice’ award winner and being chosen by his peers to the annual Super Doctors list for seven consecutive years.
